We had our annual Orlando holiday mini sessions this weekend at The Brand Studio. We had such a wonderful turnout and it is always so much fun to see new and returning families.
This is my tenth year offering holiday mini sessions. Each year, I rack my brain, trying to decide the best way to offer these mini sessions, and honestly, whether or not to offer them at all. What keeps me doing them is the clients who return each and every year.
It is a lot of brain work to come up with a new creative idea, that feels like the holidays but is not to “Christmas-y”. I have built a brand on a pretty minimalist, neutral style and the thought of a ton of red and green kind of makes me squirm! Haha. I always want to have a setup that looks elegant and feels timeless.
The mini session time has also been something we have tweaked over the years. These mini sessions used to be 20 minutes, and I felt I was photographing families all day. I would have so many of the same exact photos, in the same pose, of the same family. It was definitely overkill. I have shortened the holiday minis to 15 minutes, and now they are 10 minutes. Some photographers would freak out with 10 minute, back to back sessions, but this is the second year of doing it this way and it really works out beautifully. There are a lot of children at holiday sessions and their attention span is short. Plus, we have a gorgeous setup, but how many images in the same scene does any family really need? I take a lot of photos in a short amount of time and we tend to get everything we need quickly. Then, everyone can get on with their day. Dads and children are thrilled!
We always some kind of activity for the kids to do if they are waiting and other treats and goodies for everyone after their session is complete! This year, we had a little hot cocoa bar with holiday togo cups, marshmallows, peppermint sticks and all the fixings for a fun drink.
