How do we create photographs of our own children that embodies who they are, during this season? We want these pictures, when they are silly, curious or even pouty. Our babies grow so fast, we want these often ordinary days, immortalized, before they slip silently away and become a very distant memory.
You know those images you see that you can’t stop looking at? There are reasons our eyes are drawn right to where the creator wants you to look. There is purpose behind what makes feel something in an image.
Below are a few simple tips you can put into practice today to start creating compelling photos of your children!
TIP 1: FOCUS
In order to get perfect focus, put your focus point on the eye of the child closest to you when photographing 2 or more children. If you are photographing one of your children, focus on the eye that is closest to you if they are turned!
TIP 2: MOVEMENT
Are wiggly children making your images look blurry? Try keeping your shutter speed about 1/250 when photographing little ones if you want crisp photos.
Want to show movement? Lower your shutter speed to 1/30 to capture your child moving!
TIP 3: LEADING LINES
Create interest in the images you create of your family by using leading lines. Use the lines of a sidewalk, a tree branch, staircase or any other lines around your home to lead right to where you want the viewer to look.
What types of leading lines do you see around you? How can you use them when you compose a photo with your child?
