Where do I even begin? To say that this wedding was full of love and emotion would be an understatement. So many of us found ourselves not only speechless, but ugly crying from the outpouring of pure, unconditional love. I wish I had a word to describe the way it felt to be enveloped in the energy of these two families as they came together to celebrate Kathryn and Alex over Labor Day weekend. I believe with all of my heart that every family member, guest and vendor walked away taking a little piece of this weekend with them, that will not soon be forgotten.
What’s better than getting married once? Getting married twice in one weekend! Kathryn and Alex were wed in a traditional Catholic ceremony on Saturday afternoon and recited and signed handwritten vows to each other in front of all of their family and friends on Sunday.
Kathryn and Alex are not only so sweet together, but their kindness and thoughtfulness extends to all those around them. It is easy to fall in love with this couple and now that I know the ASL sign for “Fall in love”, it is clear that this is exactly how the people around them feel.
We learned during the speeches that Kathryn and Alex met at the bank where she worked. He would visit the bank and she said one day, she will learn sign language and marry “this cute guy that comes to the bank.” Her sister Lauren asked, “How will the two of you even communicate?!” Kathryn confidently answered, “I’m learning sign language online and with YouTube videos.” Fast forward to September 4, 2022 where these families are celebrating together and we all realize that we have everything we need, right inside us to truly make our own dreams come true. Seeing the love and absolute adoration Kathryn and Alex share for each other brings truth to the philosophy that love needs no words.
This gorgeous celebration channeled all of the whimsical vibes for Kathryn’s vision of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” From the delicate wildflowers carefully stitched into the tulle of Kathryn’s dress, the vibrantly colored plumia touches, champagne and velvet, and every carefully curated personal detail, a romantic sense of whimsy was woven into each aspect of the day.
The girls began the day in the Presidential suite at the Marriott Harborcenter Downtown Buffalo. The bride sipped champagne with her favorite people while being pampered with hair and makeup. Kathryn was showered with gifts from her groom. The bridesmaids wore floor length gowns in different shades of velvet. Kathryn chose a blush and ivory custom gown for her wedding day, with layers of tulle and a wildflower adorned train. She paired her look with long, beachy waves and braids. The bride wore a necklace that her father had made for her mother, and she wore on her wedding day. She also wore a small gold ring, a borrowed gift, from her groom’s great great Aunt Jean, given to the groom’s grandmother, Helen, when she was born. It has become a tradition for the women in the family/who marry into the family to wear it on them or their person on their wedding day. Kathryn looked as if she walked out of a fairytale. Stunning!
The guys wore traditional black suits with classic bow ties. Kathryn gifted Alex with cuff links from his favorite team, none other than the Buffalo Bills. The groom’s personal interpreter for the wedding weekend was his “School Mom” from when he stayed in the residential living quarters of St Mary’s School for the Deaf during elementary-high school. Isn’t that special?! Everyone met at The Sterling at Arrowhead where the couple shared a sweet and emotional first look. They are just so happy!
Kathryn and Alex were wed in an abbreviated Catholic ceremony on Saturday. Kathryn’s mother created beautiful floral bouquets for the bride and all the bridesmaids for the first ceremony and also hand scribed the calligraphy for all of the wedding invites. She certainly has a talent for all things artistic. Their family priest was also the officiant at their beautiful, outdoor wedding on Sunday where Kathryn and Alex renewed their marital vows with their own words. As Alex and Kathryn recited their personal, handwritten vows, there was not a dry eye in site. Everyone laughed and shed joyful tears. These were not dabbing tears, rather very emotional, wet silver streaks running down the cheeks of most attendees. The ceremony left the priest speechless and the rest of us, in awe.
The reception continued inside amongst romantic, candlelit tables where the bride and groom entered with their first dance and carefully written speeches were shared in words and by sign by those closest to the bride and groom. These heartfelt words for the couple seemed to touch not only them, but everyone in attendance.
Signature drinks were enjoyed and dancing continued on the outdoor patio. A surprise fireworks display and sparkler send off was the perfect ending to this fairytale wedding day.
Congratulations Kathryn and Alex. We are better people because we know you. We wish you nothing but true love and happiness in all your days together! ?
…and I’m crying again.
