My tips for a beautiful and relaxed maternity session:
1. Book early.
Don’t wait until the last minute. Photographers scheduled fill up quickly, make sure you have time to plan the session of your dreams!
2. Scheduling for comfort.
I recommend scheduling your maternity session for any time after about 28 weeks, once your belly has popped, but you can still walk and move comfortably. Decide if you want solo portraits or if your partner will join you.
3. Pamper yourself.
Schedule hair and makeup, a blowout, a spa treatment, whatever makes you feel relaxed and confident.
4. Determine what to wear in advance.
Steam everything a few days before so you are not rushing before your session.
5. Give yourself time.
Ensure you plan to provide yourself plenty of time to get ready on the day of your session so you don’t feel hurried. Give yourself extra time to get to the location so you’re not stressed if you hit traffic.
6. If it’s not broke…
Don’t fix it! This is not the time to try something new. Avoid panic! Stick with what you know looks good on you and makes you feel confident when deciding hair, makeup and wardrobe!
7. Pack a bag.
Bring along anything you think you may want: comfy shoes, lip gloss, a brush, a hat. We probably won’t use any of it, but you’ll feel good that you are prepared if you are a planner or in the nesting stage. Pack a snack, just in case. No one likes to be hangry!
8. Empty pockets.
The large rectangular phone shape on anyone’s leg will not be flattering.
9. Make an event of it!
Plan a fun brunch or dinner after your session. You’re all dressed up, your hair is done, you wore makeup…treat yourself or make it a date night!
10. Don’t be nervous!
Relax and think about the new love growing inside of you. Your body is creating a miracle and you look radiant! Take a deep breath and relax. Trust the process, you are more than prepared. You have hired an expert who understands lighting and flattering angles. Enjoy this sweet season you are in. It will be over before you know it. You look amazing and your images will be gorgeous!
